RS Guitarworks has been in existence since 1996 when it was co-founded by Scott Leedy and Rowen Bowen. Based in Winchester, Kentucky, the roots of the company can be traced back to 1994. This is when Leedy, a musician and woodworker, moved to the area and struck a friendship with Bowen. Bowen was then working for a Fender repair shop given as he was already an experienced woodworker himself as well as an accomplished guitarist. They both had a passion for vintage guitars and more so the intricate components that made these instruments special.
The two friends started a shop two years later in the basement of Bowen’s house. The initial services offered included repairs, restorations on vintage instruments as well as custom jobs. Having developed over the years, the company is now made up of a team of guitar enthusiasts who offer various services to a wide clientele and has moved to a bigger building with all the characteristics of a fully fledged service shop. The company designs and builds high custom quality guitars for professional guitarists, retailers as well as ordinary guitar enthusiasts.
In addition, they offer a popular aging and refinishing service that has proved popular with many clients. What this does is to transform an ordinary guitar into a work of art that has all the attributes of a vintage instrument. This is accomplished by the use of a specially blended Nitrocellulose lacquer applied in the climate controlled environment of the workshop so as to achieve a natural look without the sticky feel. They also use vintage style aniline tints that have a more authentic look as compared to the modern tints. In the end you get a guitar that looks like it’s been used yet well taken care of. The company has a wide array of guitars available such as the popular TeeVee Series.
