Hear the Palmer Speaker Simulator
Palmer PDI-03 Speaker Simulator
Ever hear of this? I didn't either until about a week ago. Looks very similar to the old Groove Tubes Speaker Simulator (and there's some tension between the two companies). In a nutshell, this rack-mount device is designed to take the output signal of your amp (instead of going to the speaker) and run it into the Palmer, which will take the load, allow you to simulate a cab by shaping the EQ, and spit out a line level signal that you can run direct into a mixing console or effects processor.
As a result of sending the tone to the mixing board, the Palmer will enable you to play your very own real tube amp through headphones.
So, what we have here is quite possibly the best way to play your very own rig, but through headphones. Apartment dwellers alert! Also alert your wallet since these sell for $600. But, are we really that adverse to paying for tone? I didn't think so.

I bought one of these hoping to play my rare and expensive 6100 LE brass Marshall head at lower volume with the best tube sound. Very Sadly One week after receiving the Palmer device my head is now heavily damaged. The THRU input jack is for connecting to a speaker through the palmer. But the jack is placed at the worst place right next the (INPUT) jack and they put “8 ohms” inscription right next the THRU input instead of putting it next to the INPUT for clarity. For a couple of days i was doing fine but quite disapointed by the Palmer. One evening i moved my settup in the room and rewired it. That time mistakenly connecting to THRU. Next thing i play and had no sound. I have never made the mistake of not connecting a speaker to my head but the Palmer with its poor design helped me make that mistake. There was no second my output transformer is probably fried now making poping and motoring sounds while my power tube heat up very hot I had to turn it off. It is broken now. Thanks stupid Palmer !!!
